THE SWIFT EFFECT: TAYLOR SWIFT HAS A MIDAS TOUCH IN MAKING ARTISTS KNOWN
Taylor Swift is one of pop-music’s most accomplished young talents and is well decorated for her songwriting ability. But unlike many other young talents in the music industry, the 23 year-old admits she has never had the urge to take her clothes off or dress provocatively. While gracing the cover of Glamour magazine ‘s March issue, Swift gives a candid interview about writing such personal songs, not wanting to pose nude and relationship advice. “I find it relatively easy to keep my clothes on because I don’t really feel like taking them off. It’s not an urge I have,” Swift told the mag, maybe taking a swipe at Miley Cyrus? The ‘Red’ hit maker further explained, “For me ‘risky’ is revealing what really happened in my life through music. Risky is writing confessional songs and telling the true story about a person with enough details so everyone knows who that person is.” Adding, “That’s putting myself out there, maybe even more than taking my shirt off.” Although Swift is happy with how her body image is, she is still cautious of falling into the trap of critics, especially the ones trolling the internet. “I’m careful about getting sucked into the rabbit hole that is the Internet because, as a songwriter, I don’t have the option of having thick skin. As a writer you have to be open to everything, and that includes pain, rejection, self-doubt, fear,” she said. “I deal with that enough on my own. If you look hard enough, you could find somebody on the Internet criticizing every single thing about you. If you’re me.” If Taylor is known for one thing, it is that most of her hit tracks are related to love, break-ups or the two combined. She has written songs about ex-partners such as Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer and Jo Jonas. It is safe to say the ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ singer, who is currently single, can afford to give out dating advice. “Silence speaks so much louder than screaming… Never give anyone an excuse to say you’re crazy,” she stated.

Listen to her music. While some pop stars have a “less (clothing) is more” philosophy, 24-year-old Swift has kept her physical assets under wraps. But that’s because, as she tells Glamour magazine in its March issue, she has a different definition of what it means to be naked. “I find it relatively easy to keep my clothes on because I don’t really feel like taking them off,” the “Red” singer says. “It’s not an urge I have. For me ‘risky’ is revealing what really happened in my life through music. Risky is writing confessional songs and telling the true story about a person with enough details so everyone knows who that person is.” It’s true that her style of songwriting has gotten her into some pickles with ex-boyfriends who’ve presumed the music is about them (*cough* John Mayer *cough*), but Swift has neither regrets nor a desire to do anything differently. “One of my big goals as a human being is to continue to write about what’s really happening to me, even if it’s a tough pill to swallow for people around me,” she tells Glamour. So when it comes to her next album, expect to hear more tracks along the lines of “I Knew You Were Trouble.” “Working on this album has been unbelievable,” she says. “On ‘Red’ I did three songs with Max Martin and Shellback – ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,’ ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ and ’22.’ I think we’ll be doing a lot more than three songs together on the next album.” When she’s not working, Swift continues to surround herself with girlfriends – including Hailee Steinfeld, Selena Gomez and The Civil Wars’ Joy Williams – and readily admits that her go-to conversation of choice is dating. One of her favorite tactics? What Swift calls “the freeze-out.” “You don’t respond to any of his texts or calls until he does something desperate, (like) shows up. Or he calls and leaves a voicemail. Something that makes it very clear to you that he’s interested,” she explains.

Taylor Swift on new album, dating and keeping her clothes on
Smith is an up and comer who has primarily floated around the indie electro scene, outside the attentions of teeny bopping young girls. That was until Taylor flashed his goods to a stadium of fervent fans. Worldwide Google searches of Smith increased by 10 percent in a matter of hours following the performance. In terms of exposure, Taylor’s got a loyal pop following, but she also commands the attention of the country music scene. On her current tour for RED she’s toting supporting acts in both genres. On any given night fans can see British acoustic crooner Ed Sheeran , and Southern country duo Florida Georgia Line on the same stage. Other opening acts have included the electro pop group Neon Trees , hip-popper Guy Sebastian , and country acts Hunter Hayes, David Nail , and Brett Eldredge. Her influence is not limited to up and comers. Taylor is gaga for music legends. On her Speak Now tour Taylor was joined on stage by music legend James Taylor. The singing-songwriting legend who up until that point was as uncool to these teens as their moms’ dance moves saw his Google popularity increase by 50 percent over the following week. In July of 2013 she giddily performed “Your So Vain” with Carly Simon. The concert was on a Saturday night, by Monday Carly’s google popularity was up 80 percent. The majority of her fans may not have really grasped what they were witnessing: footage of both concerts betray a brief moment of slow build as her audience registers the excitement shown on Swift’s face and absorbs the energy.
Taylor Swift pulls the best popstar poses, like, ever
We’re never going to get a burst of Beyonce-level choreography out of the country star, but that’s not to say T-Swizz doesn’t know how to strut across the stage and strike a diva outline. With that in mind, behold some of Taylor Swift’s best popstar poses, with a dash of awestruck commentary. 1. The classic hand on hip It’s the oldest pose in the book, but when administered correctly – like here by Taylor Swift – it can take you from cliched modelling wannabe to eat-my-ponytail sass. She’s even managing to pull it off in flats. WENN / David Sims Taylor Swift during the UK leg of her 2014 tour 2. Reach for the stars It’s that part of the song where the beat dies down before the final chorus and a popstar reaches out to all their fans. Taylor’s red sparkly shoes are a healthy shoulder width apart as she lifts that arm with Google Maps precision. WENN / David Sims Taylor Swift during the UK leg of her 2014 tour 3. Caning it Every good popstar has a trunk full of props and Taylor whipped out the trusty ole cane for her Red tour. Casually leaning on the glittery stick, she managed to pull off a silhouette Tyra Banks would be proud of. WENN / David Sims Taylor Swift during the UK leg of her 2014 tour 4.
